MuSa Auditions International Student 2026

MuSa Auditions International Student 2026

Do you play an instrument or sing? Join our University musical ensembles, even if you're only at Sapienza for your Erasmus!

MuSa Classica welcomes players and singers, trained either institutionally (conservatories or music schools) or individually (private lessons), with no level distinction. MuSa members are involved in preparing classical repertoire—both orchestral and chamber music—from the Baroque to the 20th century, for events such as institutional ceremonies, concerts for the Sapienza community, and full music theatre productions. Good music reading skills and instrumental proficiency are required to be able to play in an orchestral group. Admission will require a short piece of your choice, with or without accompaniment.

MuSa Jazz is organized into various ensembles coordinated by the director: the MuSa Jazz Orchestra, a full big band, and MuSa Jazz Combo, smaller and mid-sized jazz groups. The ensembles perform at various venues within the university and in prestigious locations around the city. Call for first trumpet/solo trumpet and vocalists with jazz experience. Players and singers must have good sightreading skills, some familiarity with jazz language, ideally some improvisation ability, and a willingness to experiment. For the audition, you can present yourself with a jazz backing tracks of your choice (files must be in .wav, .mp3 or iReal Pro format). There will be a short sight-reading test and an optional improvisation test over typical jazz progressions (blues, standards, etc.).

EtnoMuSa focuses on music from oral traditions—from folk to world music—and social songs from Italy and beyond. Reading music is not required, but being able to play by ear and attending rehearsals consistently is important. All instruments are welcome, including those from non-Italian traditions, as well as voices. Erasmus students are especially welcome to share traditional music from their countries as part of the orchestra's international projects. The group performs pieces from Italian and international folk repertoires and regularly takes part in festivals and events, both in Rome and across Italy. Admission will involve performing a short piece of your choice, with or without accompaniment.

MuSa Blues is a vocal and instrumental ensemble exploring the roots of music: from classic blues and gospel to the icons of soul, rock, funk and R&B. The goal is to combine a large vocal group with a solid rhythm section, plus a brass section, in the style of the great bands of the past like those of Tamla/Motown or Stax Records. Great attention is paid to writing original arrangements of both great classics and lesser-known tracks, ranging from traditionals to contemporary pieces. Call for singers and brass.

The MuSa Polyphonic Choir is a large choral ensemble made up of about 100 singers. Its repertoire ranges from classical to pop, from early to contemporary music, and from sacred to secular. No specific musical training is required, but being in tune is necessary, as well as (ideally) having basic music reading skills. The audition consists of a brief impromptu vocal test, in small groups, with no prepared piece required.
